Step outside the box: Speed up your medication reconciliation today

As mentioned in my previous article, there are 3 billion prescriptions written each year in the US. Imagine if more than 90% of these prescriptions could be sent to pharmacies via drchrono. Yes, it is possible. How?

drchrono is powered by Surescripts, an electronic prescription service provider that is currently working with 95% of the US pharmacies. Moreover, e-prescribing via drchrono EHR/EMR satisfies all legal requirements mandated by 21 CFR Part 1311 and certified for Stage 2 Meaningful Use.

At a basic level, e-prescribing was used as a system that served as an electronic reference book. Today, drchrono offers a more sophisticated e-prescribing system that can act as stand-alone prescription writer within itself.

Providers can sign up with drchrono to set up eRx to begin prescribing. They can create and refill prescriptions for individual patients, manage medications and view patient history, connect to a pharmacy or other drug dispensing site, and integrate with drchrono EHR/EMR.

Within the US, if providers use drchrono, a qualified e-prescribing system, they are entitled to be part of US government’s electronic prescribing incentive program. This will give a medical practice up to 2% reimbursement of their Medicare Part B charges.

drchrono transmits prescriptions electronically with Surescripts, warn prescribers on potential allergic reactions and drug to drug interactions.

It will give providers the option to build their own instructions for a prescription and create their Rx profiles. The e-prescriptions can be saved in the associated patients’ charts, ready for a re-fill.

E-prescribing through drchrono EHR/EMR will allow providers to reduce the number of lost prescriptions and readmissions, track patient fulfillment of prescriptions, spend less time on refills and improve medication adherence by 10%.

In the next part of this series, find out how you can e-prescribe for controlled substances via drchrono EHR/EMR.
