Medical App of the Week – Groupon

It takes time to find the great apps simple apps in the sea of apps that are out that are actually useful.

My goal during these Medical App of the Week reviews are to “Make Doctors Entrepreneurs”, helping doctors, nurses and medical professionals learn about what apps are available to help them run their own healthcare practices through iPads and iPhones.

The iPhone / iPad app this week I would like to highlight is an app called “[Groupon”

Speak It!]2

This app is not meant for every doctor. It is meant for doctos in small practices who provide services like eye laser treatments, teeth whitening, plastic surgery, checkups, dental cleanings or all cash service treatments.

What exactly is Groupon and how does it work? The company Groupon offers group coupons every day of the markets it serves. The Groupon works as an assurance contract using ThePoint’s platform: if a certain number of people sign up for the offer, then the deal becomes available to all. Groupon makes money by keeping approximately half the money the customer pays for the coupon. So, for example, a $1000 laser treatment package could be purchased by the consumer for $500 and then Groupon and the health professional would split the $500. That is, the retailer gives a laser treatment package valued at $1000 and gets approximately $250 from Groupon for it. If a health professional wants to bulk sell a service the there is benifit to using Groupon. Again this isn’t an app for any health professional, but it is great for some professions like Chiropractors.

This is where you can sign up to be a deal of the day.

Generally Groupon focuses more on the female market so just be aware of this.

Check out these two deals I just found on the iPad app, an Optometrist giving a deal and a laser surgery clinic giving a deal. It is worth try out and seeing if you get new patients into the office with this marketing tool! Heck, they might even become regulars after you get them into the office and make them a happy customer!
